Add some accessories

Chilly weather may have you scrambling to unpack stored away sweaters and coats but before you pile on too much—allow us to provide you with a few tips to make those layers look flawless.
1. Start with something lightweight. Something neutral or striped is a good base to work from and keeping it light will allow you to feel comfortable even in a few layers. Choose something fitted and allow the outer layers to add more shape. Try not to go too light. Each visible layer should be something that could be worn on its own.
2. Add a sweater. Something soft and warm. If you’re going to add a jacket on top keep the sweater thin and light. Choose a deep fall color that will add depth to your look.
3. Add a statement jacket. Have some fun with the jacket. Try out different lengths and materials but make sure it’s something different from the sweater underneath. Men should avoid jackets that are shorter than the sweater or shirt underneath. If it’s not too cold, choose a lighter jacket that has some character and allow the sweater to keep you comfy. If it’s a colder day choose something heavier that can be shed once you’re indoors. Jackets in neutral colors are the most versatile.
4. Add some accessories. Choose a scarf, a watch or rings.
5. Keep it simple. A good rule of thumb is no more than three layers. A nice blouse or shirt, a sweater and a jacket over the top is pretty standard. Don’t be tempted to add more than you know what to do with.
